For 123 years, the Drayton Town Hall has been the centre of significant events and is a tangible legacy of the endeavours of a strong community. The vision of our predecessors in their dedication to this building was vital in helping to shape the growth and success of this village and surrounding rural townships.
This fine civic centre featured state-of-the-art facilities for administration, public meetings, library, fire hall, justice, education, art, and entertainment.
Several generations of children, elderly, and leaders share stories and memories of life in these walls.
The many events held here raised funds and gathered support for local projects and charitable causes, locally in Peel, Maryborough, and Drayton, Wellington County, as well as provincially and nationally.
The history of this building is a reflection of the history of Mapleton. Come and hear stories about how this building was envisioned, built, and how, more than any other, it helped a small rural settlement develop into a highly acclaimed gathering place.
The presentation will be held by David McAuley. David attended elementary and high school, got married, had 4 children, and practiced architecture in Drayton. His great-great grandfather settled in Peel Township. David is currently a semi-retired architect and lives in Guelph.
